Serving the communities of Prescott-Russell
PRESCOTT-RUSSELL CHURCH OF GOD is the
continuation of a vision that began over 100 years ago. In 1860’s a great revival sweep through
western Prescott county starting in a small hamlet just south of Maxville
(now known as Dominionville). Along
its path this little church house was built to accommodate the newly
converted worshippers living and working in Riceville. In the 1930’s, when the CPR was
expanding to the agricultural communities in eastern Ontario, the train
station missed Riceville for the more favorable location of
Plantagenet. Slowly the commerce in
Riceville began to relocate to the better transportation hubs in
Plantagenet. Late in the 1940’s the
Christian community that meet in Riceville was all but gone forcing the
building to be used for worldly functions.
Our building was used as a bank, dance hall and finally a community
center. It was abandoned and left
crumbling from about the mid 1960’s until it was rediscovered and put back
into useful service for the Lord Jesus Christ by Christian pioneers
associated with in 1988.
